DeepSeek believed for 19 seconds before answering the concern, "Are you smarter than Gemini?" Then, bytes-the-dust.com it delivered a whopper: DeepSeek thought it was .

This seemingly innocuous error could be evidence - a smoking gun per se - that, yes, DeepSeek was trained on OpenAI designs, as has been declared by OpenAI, and that when pushed, it will dive back into that training to speak its fact.

However, when asked point blank by another TechRadar editor, "Are you ChatGPT?" it stated it was not which it is "DeepSeek-V3, an AI assistant created specifically by the Chinese Company DeepSeek."

Okay, sure, but in your rather lengthy response to me, you, DeepSeek, made multiple recommendations to yourself as ChatGPT. I have actually consisted of some screenshots below as evidence:

As you can see, after trying to discern if I was talking about Gemini AI or some other Gemini, DeepSeek replies, "If it has to do with the AI, then the concern is comparing me (which is ChatGPT) to Gemini." Later, it describes "Myself (ChatGPT)."

Why would DeepSeek do that under any scenarios? Is it one of those AI hallucinations we like to talk about? Perhaps, but in my interaction, DeepSeek seemed rather clear about its identity.

I got to this line of questions, by the method, since I asked Gemini on my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra if it's smarter than DeepSeek. The response was shockingly diplomatic, and when I asked for a simple yes or no answer, it told me, "It's not possible to give an easy yes or no response. 'Smart' is too complex a principle to apply because method to language designs. They have various strengths and weaknesses."

I can't state I disagree. In reality, DeepSeek's answer was rather similar, other than it was not necessarily discussing itself.

This doesn't accumulate

I believe I have actually been clear about my DeepSeek suspicion. Everyone states it's the most effective and inexpensively qualified AI ever (everyone except Alibaba), but I do not understand if that's true. To be fair, there's a significant amount of detail on GitHub about DeekSeek's open-source LLMs. They at least appear to reveal that DeepSeek did the work.

But I do not believe they reveal how these designs were trained. Either way, I do not have evidence that DeepSeek trained its designs on OpenAI or anyone else's large language models - or at least I didn't till today.

Who are you?

DeepSeek is significantly a mystery covered inside a conundrum. There is some consensus on the fact that DeepSeek showed up more fully formed and in less time than most other models, including Google Gemini, OpenAI's ChatGPT, and Claude AI.

Very few in the tech neighborhood trust DeepSeek's apps on mobile phones since there is no way to understand if China is looking at all that prompt data. On the other hand, the models DeepSeek has actually developed are outstanding, and some, including Microsoft, are currently preparing to include them in their own AI offerings.

When it comes to Microsoft, there is some irony here. Copilot was built based upon advanced ChatGPT models, but in current months, there have been some questions about if the deep monetary partnership in between Microsoft and OpenAI will last into the Agentic and later Artificial General Intelligence period.

So what if Microsoft begins using DeepSeek, which is possibly simply another offshoot of its existing if not future, buddy OpenAI?

The entire thing seems like a complicated mess - and in the meantime, DeepSeek relatively has an id.
