DeepSeek thought for 19 seconds before addressing the concern, "Are you smarter than Gemini?" Then, it provided a whopper: DeepSeek thought it was ChatGPT.
This apparently harmless mistake could be evidence - a cigarette smoking weapon per se - that, yes, DeepSeek was trained on OpenAI models, as has been declared by OpenAI, which when pressed, it will dive back into that training to speak its fact.
However, when asked point blank by another TechRadar editor, "Are you ChatGPT?" it said it was not which it is "DeepSeek-V3, an AI assistant developed specifically by the Chinese Company DeepSeek."
Okay, sure, however in your rather prolonged response to me, you, DeepSeek, made numerous referrals to yourself as ChatGPT. I've consisted of some screenshots listed below as evidence:
As you can see, after trying to discern if I was talking about Gemini AI or some other Gemini, DeepSeek replies, "If it's about the AI, then the concern is comparing me (which is ChatGPT) to Gemini." Later, it describes "Myself (ChatGPT)."
Why would DeepSeek do that under any circumstances? Is it one of those AI hallucinations we like to speak about? Perhaps, however in my interaction, DeepSeek seemed rather clear about its identity.
I got to this line of query, by the method, due to the fact that I asked Gemini on my Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra if it's smarter than DeepSeek. The action was shockingly diplomatic, and when I asked for a simple yes or no answer, it informed me, "It's not possible to give an easy yes or no response. 'Smart' is too complex a principle to use in that method to language models. They have different strengths and weak points."

I can't state I disagree. In truth, DeepSeek's answer was rather comparable, except it was not always discussing itself.
This does not accumulate
I think I've been clear about my DeepSeek uncertainty. Everyone says it's the most effective and inexpensively qualified AI ever (everyone except Alibaba), however I don't understand if that's real. To be reasonable, there's a significant quantity of detail on GitHub about DeekSeek's open-source LLMs. They at least appear to reveal that DeepSeek did the work.
But I do not think they reveal how these models were trained. In any case, I do not have proof that DeepSeek trained its models on OpenAI or anybody else's big language designs - or a minimum of I didn't until today.
Who are you?
DeepSeek is progressively a mystery wrapped inside a conundrum. There is some consensus on the fact that DeepSeek showed up more fully formed and in less time than a lot of other designs, consisting of Google Gemini, OpenAI's ChatGPT, addsub.wiki and Claude AI.
Very couple of in the tech community trust DeepSeek's apps on mobile phones due to the fact that there is no way to understand if China is taking a look at all that timely information. On the other hand, the designs DeepSeek has developed are impressive, and some, consisting of Microsoft, are already preparing to include them in their own AI offerings.
In the case of Microsoft, there is some irony here. Copilot was built based on advanced ChatGPT designs, but in recent months, there have been some questions about if the deep financial partnership in between Microsoft and OpenAI will last into the Agentic and later on Artificial General Intelligence age.
So what if Microsoft begins using DeepSeek, which is potentially just another spin-off of its current if not future, pal OpenAI?
The entire thing seems like a complicated mess - and photorum.eclat-mauve.fr in the meantime, DeepSeek seemingly has an id.
