What is Form I-765 used for?
Certain foreign nationals, who are qualified to work in the United States, utilize Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, to ask for consent to work. When hiring employees, U.S. employers must request evidence of the worker's right to work.
U.S. residents and lawful irreversible homeowners (permit holders) might work without requesting special authorization. Some nonimmigrants, short-term in nature, may be approved employment permission upon demand from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). However, not all nonimmigrants are qualified for this benefit. Individuals given work permission with an approved Form I-765 receive a work authorization document.
